July 11th and Beyond ...

Postby awd » Sat Jul 03, 2010 4:45 pm

I know Chris and I (and maybe Steve Breuer?) are racing out of town July 10th and 11th. I imagine there will not be any carpet racing that weekend on the carpet. I had some people offer to help move the track over this week and thought I would throw it out there to see if there was any opposition to moving the current layout over towards the shop between the 5th and 10th? We would be racing without any poles and with a new loop location. We also hope getting farther away from the dirt track will help keep the carpet clean. There are several solution ideas for a drivers stand with the final goal to build our own 3-4' stand with rails next to the carpet by the shop (where the bleachers are now). For now we are considering the following to gauge interest before we spend the money to build the stand:
Use the bleachers
rent scaffolding
Bring your own milk crate (lol)

If you'd like more info or have questions about the plans we have to improve the carpet racing at Mike's please feel free to PM me and I'll be glad to explain it all!! :)

Probably one of the most exciting aspects is that with a smaller track that is completely on one side of the poles, we can easily cover the track with tarp(s) when it's not being used. This will greatly reduce dirt /dust.

Please be sure and post if and when you will move the track. I had planned on coming a couple of days during that week to practice. Does this mean it will need a new groove?

Thanks.

I'm coming up there from Houston next weekend as well. I plan on practicing all weekend and racing on Sun. So if the track is going to be down or racing is off, I would like a heads up. Thanks!

Chris, that still does not answer the question. Their being racers there does not mean that teir will be racing. I have seen racers at a track, and all they did was have a free for all on practicing. We would like a definite answer on if racing is on or not.

This was the response from Mike.

I will be there on the 11th. Might even run the RC Scoring pro software.

I was able to connect the new loop bridge today. It turns out the issue was the number and/or quality of connectors on my previous attempt. Thanks to Mike, I got a nice tall ride on the fork-lift and ran a fresh line of RG-6 today straight from the decoder to the new loop and all works flawlessly. In fact when I first tested the loop today I had the whole thing up in the air on chairs roughly 30" off the ground and the transponders still counted perfectly. We can test it this weekend. If there are any problems, it won't take me long to reconnect the original loop.

It is now up to us when we want to transition to the new side of the carpet!! Moving the boards over shouldn't take too long. I am more concerned about our lack of a permanent drivers stand. We can talk about our options this weekend when we race. I hope to see all our racers there!!

I made 6 new posts and attached new banner with the posts evenly spaced on the carpet. I layed out the banner and posts for the dimensions of the carpet we are hoping to move to, so it isn't perfect for the layout now, but it sure looks better.

I'd love to hear feedback about when y'all would like to move the layout. If you're available to help all the better!

I considered asking people to stick around for a little after racing on Sunday to move it since we'll all be there already ...

I can get the carpet vacuumed before we move it.

Oh, and the boards under the handicap ramp are now painted a nice white as well. Looks super nice if you ask me.

Ill help move the track sunday but we do need to figure out what we are gonna be standing on for a drivers stand until we get a permanent solution...

I'd personally rather stand on the bleachers than get bumped around on the stand, look through poles, and race on dirtier carpet. But that's just me! :)
