My new ride

Postby adidasink » Thu Jul 01, 2010 7:35 pm

Well...I had to have surgery this past weekend...was laid up in the hospital for 4 days and now that I am home recovering I decided to take on a new on-road project. I ended up trading away my Associated TC5 for something a bit more exotic....figured I needed even more of a challenge....

Anyways...I ended up with a Serpent S400 with a spare car for parts considering that they dont make these anymore....

I have ball diffs as spares along with a one way...but installed on the car right now is the optional Serpent Gear diff and front spool. I have to start un-tweaking her so I can do some practice laps and see how she performs over at Mikes....anyways...figured I would share my enthusiasm!

Backstory....back about 10+ years ago I used to run Serpent Impulses and Serpent Impacts and always loved Serpents designs and performance....if I werent such an Associated person I would even think about getting rid of my RC8Te ride for one of the new Serpent Cobra buggies and converting her to an e-buggy.

Looks clean. I'll be at Mike's tomorrow and Sunday if you need anything.

Rock on! Depending on how I feel I might come up on Sunday. I am restricted to doing pretty much nothing but walking around...lol...so it really depends on how I am feeling.

A few things I would suggest by just looking at your car.

Buy a set of Sorex 28's from in the shop at Mike's
Move the rear shocks out a hole or two on the rear arms and maybe even a hole towards center on the tower.

In general for a starting set up I would go with

MazdaSpeed 6 body. Wing cut to the smaller size and mounted in the rear holes. Body trimmed on the upper cut line.
5 mm RH all around
2 degrees camber all around
4 degree castor blocks if you have them
Front and rear arms moved as far back as possible
3 degrees of rear toe
0 toe-in in front
Front spool
Rear diff
AE 45wt/ 18lb spring front (or close is good enough)
AE 25wt/ 16lb spring rear (or close is good enough)
2 mm above ride height for droop front and rear

make sure all the arms and turnbuckles operate freely with no binding. Disconnect the shocks to check the arms and roll the turnbuckles in your fingers to check. Disconnect the steering from the servo to make sure the steering knuckles are without any binding what-so-ever as well. With that done set your end points on your radio to turn lock to lock but no more.

Hope you're feeling better and can come race with us soon! We've got some really good stuff in the works for on-road coming up! :)

That is just the information I was needing! I am going to get wrenching on the car this morning and get it set as close to these settings as possible. I really need to get a set up station or something so that way I can error check my settings. Thank you so much for the info and I will definitely be trying to run more on-road this summer!
